Like Matt and Ken in the past, Rika takes her own path in this season before joining the others. She lives in Japan with her mother, who is a Model and wishes that Rika was more of a Lady than a Tomboy. Rika is skilled in Digimon card battles and won the championship of "The Digimon Queen". One day though, Rika's life was changed just after her victory in the Digimon Card Battle Tournament. She was at home and going on about how she wanted a strong digimon to train. Then something strange happened. A window with shadows appeared before her and they reached out for her. Rika didn't know what was going on. Then a Digimon approached and the shadows vanished before her, it was Renamon. She told Rika that she was looking for a powerful tamer and that she had chosen Rika. A blue card appeared and Rika scanned it, turning her Card Scanner into a D-Power and bringing Renamon over.

Rika is the fighter and shows no mercy to Wild Digimon. She starts out pushing Renamon to be the best, because she figured Digimon had only one purpose and that was to fight. Though her feelings are changed throughout the series when she realizes that her caring about Renamon was actually what helped Renamon become stronger. She stays away from the other Tamers at first, but soon all that changes once they have battle after battle with Wild Digimon. Eventually she becomes a team member and starts to open up a bit more with Renamon. Near the end of the series, after the D-Reaper was defeated, Rika was heart broken when Renamon had to leave with the other Digimon to return to the Digital World. Also in the last episode she did flirt a bit with Ryo, and it seemed to work. ;)

Renamon first digivolves to Kyuubimon in Episode 6, O Partner Where Art Thou?. Kyuubimon first digivolves to Taomon in Episode 18, Digital Beauty. Renamon and Rika, together, Bio Merge to Sakuyamon in Episode 39, Song of Sakuyamon.
