Suguru is Masaru's father. He went to the Digital World 10 years ago and then disappeared. We found out he met Bantyo Leomon and they became partners. When they meet Cranimmumon Suguru evolves Bantyo to Burst Mode, they go to Yggdrasil and Suguru bets his life that the events of the past will not happen again of course Kurata screws this and Yggdrasil orders Suguru's execution. When the Royal Knights prepare to carry out the order Bantyo jumps up and does it for them. We later find this was so that he could decive Yggdrasil and intake of Suguru's soul so Suguru 'becomes' Bantyo Leomon. This happens but Yggdrail doesn't miss it, he then takes over Suguru's body and tells them both that if they directly enter the battle or tell anyone who they are Suguru's body will be destroyed.
